Kid Shoes
Kids grow very quickly, and it is not uncommon for a child to outgrow their shoes before they outgrow their most recent collection of new clothes. Boys and girls tend to grow at about the same rate until girls hit their first growth spurt, right around puberty. Boys don’t often have a growth spurt until a little bit later, but when they do, their feet not only keep up with the rest of them, the feet often outpace the rest of them! On top of their quick growth, children are very hard on their clothes and their shoes. They play hard, they’re a bit thoughtless, and they don’t think twice about venturing in mud, snow, and anything else that might ruin their shoes. Also, they tend to run around more than adults. The result is that, quite often, if kid shoes aren’t outgrown, they’re worn out quickly.
Of course, it’s not reasonable to just have kids go barefoot, or wear sandals that they can grow into. Kids need a variety of different shoes for a variety of different reasons, and the shoes need to fit well so they don’t cause sores, blisters, or other problems. Kid shoes need to be durable, so they can last at least as long as a kid can fit in them. Some brands of kid shoes are so durable that it’s possible to reuse them with a younger sibling or relative, though it’s not as easy or common to pass down shoes as it is to pass down other articles of clothing, toys, or even cribs and beds.
